Dwight Harrold Peterson

July 31, 2025

Dwight Harrold Peterson, 87, of Roosevelt, went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, after passing away unexpectedly while working at his farm on Thursday, July 24, 2025.
He was born on December 7, 1937, to Harrold and Lucille (Castle) Peterson in Altus. Dwight grew up in Headrick and was baptized at the Headrick First Baptist Church.
He attended school in Headrick ultimately graduating from Roosevelt High School in 1956. After high school he attended Oklahoma Baptist University and Oklahoma State University. He married Janis Marie Stoup on November 27, 1958, in Roosevelt, Oklahoma. They were married 50 years when Janis passed on February 20, 2009. Dwight and Janis were blessed with two children, Debbie and Donnie. Dwight married Rose Marie Chance on September 11, 2011, and she preceded him in death on February 25, 2012. On February 23, 2013, Debbie introduced Dwight to Georgie Seibold Ford and they had been inseparable ever since.
Dwight spent his early years working with his mother and dad at their telephone company which they started in Headrick, with a single switchboard. It eventually expanded into the New State Telephone Company in Roosevelt, where Dwight worked until he was able to pursue his real passion. In the early 70’s, Dwight was able to start ranching and then farming. He loved farming and ranching and enjoyed working alongside his son and family on the farm. Dwight loved spending time with his family and staying at the cabin in Colorado. He also enjoyed riding his trike and jeeping in the mountains of Colorado.
Dwight’s adventurous spirit and playful, sometimes ornery grin brightened every gathering. Despite enduring personal losses, his faith, curiosity and love for life never wavered. He poured his heart into his farm, tending the land with pride, and showed his faith through quiet acts of compassion. Dwight didn’t shy away from helping strangers and neighbors alike when he felt called to do so.
He was a devoted family man. He embraced new generations with warmth, sharing prayers at dinner, and leading the family through acts of service and heartfelt advice. As a cornerstone of our family and community, Dwight’s kindness, laughter, love, and generosity will live on in our hearts forever. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
